Merry Christmas, everyone! I hope you’ve had a wonderful few days celebrating Jesus’ birthday! We stayed over at my parents house for a couple of nights so that we didn’t have to fuss about getting Jacob home to bed which worked well. His sleeping is still a bit iffy but he treated us to a 3 hour nap on Boxing Day! I think he was exhausted from all the festivities.
We spent Christmas Eve with my oldest friend Helen and her family, as is our annual tradition. Every year we have mushroom soup, with a swirl of cream, and chicken and ham pie – which Danny loves so much that he starts fantasising about it in June. My mum pulled off a delicious Christmas dinner for about 14 of us on Christmas Day and I enjoyed covering everything in bread sauce because it is my absolute favourite once-a-year treat. It really is delish! Here are a few photos from the day:
Jacob on his first Christmas morning! Not all his presents, I hasten to add. My mum gave me and Jacob matching aprons for future baking adventures which was one of my favourite gifts.
And I gave mum a Delia apron, as she always cooks Delia Smith!
So, you can see where I get my love of books from…
We then spent Boxing Day with Danny’s family and had even more delicious food! I really do think feasting together at this time of year is such an important thing to do – it brings people together and brightens up these bleak midwinter days. Danny and I attempted to make a gingerbread church together before Christmas and it was quite fun even though it looks a bit pants. The best bit was the boiled sweet stained glass windows!
I always quite like the quiet days following Christmas, when you think you will be really busy but actually aren’t. I spent hours today catching up on odd jobs around the house and managed to clean the bathroom and wash all Jacob’s nappies and Cheeky Wipes. Jacob played really well with all his new toys and we got a lot of chores done. I am really enjoying the change of pace and having a break from our normal weekly routine. We’ve even managed to book a holiday for next year – USA 2016! Plenty to look forward to. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas!
