Tuesday was one of my favourite days since Jacob was born. I wrote a miniscule list of things I needed to get done and spent the rest of my time absorbed in my son’s little newborn world. We did a lot of staring at various objects, especially a rather colourful toucan that hangs down from his jungle gym. The toucan might even have been treated to a smile, which Jacob currently only offers to very worthy recipients. We snuggled in the rocking chair and read The Jolly Postman and then had a nap. In the evening I gave him a bath and a baby massage, which I completely made up, although I’m told you can learn how to do it properly! It was such a simple day but one I will treasure.
I read a good motto recently which said: “Do less, and be amazing at those things”. I think it’s the perfect challenge for me at the moment as I strive to be a loving wife and mummy, keep a nice home, read my Bible, exercise, see friends and still have dinner on the table when Danny gets in. I’m learning to just pick a few things to do each day and try to do them really well. These are such sweet and fleeting days of feeding the ducks, snuggling in bed in the mornings and watching the world go by with my little boy. I don’t want to let busyness and skewed priorities rob me of those little joys.
