I momentarily forgot that I was pregnant the other morning and strode in front of the mirror fully expecting to see my normal belly staring back at me. My spherical reflection came as quite a wake up call! I also can’t quite comprehend how I ‘forgot’ that I was pregnant because I can hardly turn over in bed these days without needing a crane. I am five weeks away from the due date but will be considered full term in two weeks which is such a strange realisation, I can hardly get my head round it. Two weeks?! That’s 14 days. I’m definitely not quite ready for such an early arrival! My guess is that baby will arrive on March 28th. No idea why, but that’s the date in my head.
We had a fairly mad week rushing around getting everything we need for the baby. One of the most overwhelming tasks when you are expecting is figuring out exactly what your baby needs when it arrives and where to get it from. Some people say “Your baby just needs love, food and warmth” or some other simplistic assertion which sounds lovely but is actually ridiculous. These little people need quite a lot of basic paraphernalia! We found it all really fun and exciting, although a little punishing on the bank balance. We ended up purchasing the buggy, the car seat, the cot and a rocking chair plus a few smaller baby necessities. I enjoyed picking the buggy the most – we tested out quite a few in John Lewis and chose the ICandy Strawberry 2 which has a flat carrycot for the early months and then adapts to an upright position for an older baby or toddler. I also thought it looked attractive and that was about the sum total of my market research 🙂
We saw the midwife on Thursday and I was so happy that Danny could come to the appointment with me because he is usually at work. He hasn’t heard baby’s little heartbeat since October! Baby is measuring the right size for my dates which is good and my iron levels have now stabilised having previously been quite low. And I am still sleeping pretty well which I am so thankful for. Here’s to the last few weeks!
